If you're having any issues with crashes, freezes, or error messages with Lego 2K on Steam, check out the following troubleshooting:

System requirements:

The very first step in troubleshooting your game is to confirm your build can run it. Computer specs that are just about or below specifications may cause the game to not launch or have performance issues. You can view a game’s system requirements towards the bottom of the game’s page in the Steam store.

Verifying integrity of game files:

A classic, but necessary! Verifying the integrity of your Steam game helps to flush out any corrupted files. The steps to do so are to:

  1. Load Steam
  2. From the 'Library' section, right-click on the game you're having trouble with and select "Properties" from the menu.
  3. Select "Installed Files" and click "Verify integrity of game files".
  4. Steam will then match the local files to the cloud files to fix any errors it encounters.

For more information on Steam’s file verification process, check out their article here.

Update Graphic Drivers:

Outdated drivers can cause issues with gameplay and overall stability. They can also cause issues with compatibility on your device, or cause a game to not launch at all. It’s important to keep all drivers up to date with the latest downloads.

You can check for driver updates from:

Running as Administrator:

Sometimes a lack of permissions on your computer can lead to a game not launching or failing to connect to the servers. You’ll want to ensure that the game has full access by granting the proper permissions through launching both the game and Steam as an Admin.

Launching the game as Administrator.

  1. Head to the game title in your Library.
  2. Right click and select Properties.
  3. Go to Compatibility.
  4. Check “run this program as administrator”.
  5. Select apply and then hit “OK” to close the properties window.

Now when launching the game, it should launch with administrative privileges.

Launching Steam as Administrator.

  1. Locate the Steam Application file within your computer. The most common place for it is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.
  2. Right click and select Properties.
  3. Go to Compatibility.
  4. Check “run this program as administrator”.
  5. Select apply and then hit “OK” to close the properties window.

Steam should additionally now launch with administrative privileges.

Changing DirectX/Vulkhan version:

Titles such as Sid Meier’s Civilization series may prompt you to select a version of DirectX or Vulkhan upon launch. If you’re encountering performance issues or graphical glitches while playing, try switching between the different launch options to see if it resolves the issue.

Programs that may interfere with Steam:

There are several applications that may cause complications when run alongside Steam due to certain permissions or functionality. Some examples are:

  • Anti-virus Software
    • Certain permissions may prevent Steam or certain games from launching, or games may create a false-positive alert within your anti-virus software. Creating exceptions for both Steam and the title can help it to launch.
  • Virtual Private Network (VPN) Software
    • VPNs can stop Steam and certain games from accessing its network. It’s best to turn off any VPNs to see if it is interfering with the launch or connection.
  • Firewall & Security Applications
    • Similarly to anti-virus software, firewalls and other security applications can prevent Steam and games from launching. Exceptions may have to be made for both Steam and the title.
  • Overlays
    • Any gaming overlays may cause issues. If you have one currently active, try turning it off.

Mods:

Ensure that there are no user-created modifications or 'mods' currently installed in your version of the game.

These additions to the game are not tested or checked for compatibility issues, and as such, may interfere with the troubleshooting process. Additionally, mods may break when a new patch is implemented in a game and cause issues.

In order to completely remove any mods, follow these steps:

  1. Un-subscribe from all user-created mods via Steam Workshop.
  2. Fully uninstall and re-install the game (ensure you keep a backup of your save files).
  3. Launch the game and verify if your issue persists.

Installing DLC and Additional Content:

If a game offers additional downloadable content, you can find it on the store from the base game page or by searching for it in Steam. DLC owned by your account can be viewed and managed in your library a few different ways:

Right click menu in Library

  1. Go to your Library in the Steam client.
  2. Right click the game and select "Properties..." from the menu.
  3. Then select "DLC" in the window that appears.

Gear icon for game's Library page

  1. Go to your Library in the Steam client.
  2. Select the game and on the game's Library page select the gear icon.
  3. Select "Properties..." from the menu that appears.
  4. Then select "DLC" in the window that appears.

DLC section on game's Library page

  1. Go to your Library in the Steam client.
  2. Go to the game's Library page scroll down until you find the "DLC" section.
  3. Then click "Manage My # DLC".

From the DLC installation and management menu you can see what DLC you have for the game and whether it has been installed.

Controller troubleshooting:

Certain gamepads and controllers may not be optimized or compatible. As such, any controller plugged into your machine may cause unexpected and unforeseen conflicts.

  1. Unplug any connected controllers from your PC and attempt to launch the game again before plugging it back in.
  2. Plug in a different controller to see if the issue persists, or if it only occurs with a specific controller.

How do I find my Steam ID?

If you're encountering an issue with one of 2K's Steam titles, there's a chance we may need you to give us your Steam ID. If you're not sure what it is, your Steam ID is the lengthy profile number that always starts with a 7.

If you need to find your Steam ID, you can follow our steps below to find your ID.

  1. Open Steam and click your Steam name in the top right.
  2. Select Account details.
  3. Your Steam name will show in large print at the top, with your Steam ID right below.
  4. The number that displays is the actual SteamID we require.
