We love to see players on all kinds of platforms enjoying 2K Games! For those who are on Macs, we want to make sure you have as good an experience as possible, so we've put together some basic help in this guide for troubleshooting and where to go for more assistance if needed.

Minimum Specification Requirements

First step is to check the Mac requirements for your game. If your computer is below the minimum requirements in any aspect, the game is unlikely to run or may encounter serious issues, and our team will not be able to assist you with troubleshooting these concerns.

Basic Troubleshooting

Perform a Safe Boot

Safe boot makes your Mac boot up with the minimum amount of drivers needed to make it work, and it checks your hard disk in the process, which means it might take a bit longer to boot up.

To do this:

  • Start up your computer while holding down the Shift key until the Apple logo passes.
  • If your Mac starts up with the safe boot, go ahead and restart the computer again and see if it boots up normally.
    • As odd as it sounds, this fixes the problem a surprising amount of the time!
    • If not, it's time to give the hard drive a closer look...

Repair Disk Permissions

To address possible hard drive issues, you're going to want to take the following steps, from either safe mode or normal startup:

  1. Open Disk Utility, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
  2. Select the startup disk from the list of volumes.
  3. Click the First Aid tab.
  4. To check permissions, click Verify Disk Permissions.
  5. To repair permissions, click Repair Disk Permissions.

Full Reboot

While it's a classic troubleshooting step, it really does work to sometimes turn it off and turn it back on again! Of course, there's a very thorough way to do this that has a few more steps that might help:

  • Shut down your machine. Yes, all the way down, not sleep or logging out.
  • Press the power button and then press Control-Option-Command-Power.
  • Hold those keys down until your Mac reboots again and you hear the startup chime.
  • Let go of the keys and let your Mac reboot normally.
  • Reset the System Management Controller (SMC); this link will explain how to do that on a desktop and on a laptop: https://support.apple.com/102605

Network Troubleshooting

Many games from 2K require a reliable internet connection, especially for multiplayer game modes. One of the best ways to track down issues along the way is a Traceroute, and this is information that can help an agent help you if you send us a ticket.

From a Mac OS you can get this information by:

  1. Open Applications > Utilities > then Terminal.
  2. In the terminal window, type "traceroute 2k.com".
  3. Press enter for the Traceroute to begin.
  4. Once it's finished, hi-light the results and Copy them or press Command + C to copy the test.
  5. Paste the text into a text editor and save the file.
  6. You can include this file with your ticket to Customer Support if you need help understanding it!

Files To Help Us Help You

Along with the Traceroute document mentioned above, a copy of your Mac's Diagnostic File can give us some much-needed information about your computer, your issue, and what our next steps may be.

Apple Support has this handy guide that can take you through the steps to get these details, and then you'll be able to take a screenshot of any error messages or codes that you received. This screenshot can be included in your ticket to Customer Support, like the Traceroute, or you can check the meaning of those results yourself.
