When Risk of Rain 2 is having issues, we have some common solutions that may be what you need to resolve those problems!

First Steps

Cache Clear

One of the tried and true troubleshooting steps is the classic cache clear! This can be done on any gaming platform, so check out our article on cache clear here where you can find the steps for your system.

Console Firmware Updates

For our Xbox and PlayStation players, each one has a handy set of instructions on how to ensure your firmware is up to date. You can visit their sites to get the best steps:

Reinstall Games and DLC

An old classic tactic, uninstall and reinstall, is a classic for a reason, it often works! Start with just the DLC, but if you're still encountering the problem, then go all the way to removing and installing the full game and all the DLC.

Addressing Low Frame Rates/Poor Performance

A common concern is low FPS (Frames Per Second), games that are slow to respond, or sessions that are just plain choppy and sluggish. There are a few of things to try turning off, some of which are system or hardware specific:

  • Disable any overlay software (MSI Afterburner, Steam Overlay, Discord, etc.)
  • Disable recording or capture software (Bandicam, FRAPS, etc.)
  • Disable Xbox Live Game Center App (Windows 10 only)
  • Disable Raptr Gaming Evolve App (AMD users only)

Platform Specific Steps

Our most common platforms each have a small trick that may resolve some common issues:

Network Troubleshooting

We have a couple articles that can help with any network issues you may be encountering, so be sure to check out [PC] General Network Troubleshooting and [Consoles] General Networking Troubleshooting.

Controller Troubleshooting

If you're using a controller on PC, there are some things to keep in mind that can help with anything you might run into:

  • Avoid third-party controllers, but if you are using one be sure to set their polling rate to 125 Hz
  • Steam players can open “External Gamepad Settings” and set “Enable Steam Input for PlayStation controllers” to Off
  • Third-party controller software (Like Vjoy) can negatively affect PC settings, but you can disable/uninstall these from the Device Manager

Other Common Issues

If you see the "Failed to start Steamworks Integration Error" the likely culprit is an outdated mod file or using a VPN. Disabling these should resolve the error.

Unity crash errors are typically caused by external monitors - try unplugging any extra monitors, disable Radeon Anti-Lag settings, or just end the Unity Crash Handler in the Task Manager.

Lost progress is frustrating, so your best cure is prevention - you can restore your lost saves using Cloud Saves for your console platform:
