With Gearbox and 2K coming together, we know there are some questions about how 2K Accounts and SHiFT Accounts will work in this bright new future, so we're here to try to answer as many as we can!

SHiFT and 2K Account Questions

Q: Where will I go to get support for Gearbox titles, now that they're under the 2K Games umbrella?

A: Right here! 2K will be providing support for Gearbox’s library, such as Borderlands, Risk of Rain 2, the Homeworld series, Godfall, and more. Contact our support team here.

Q: How do I log into my SHiFT account going forward?

A: Nothing is changing with your SHiFT account, so head on over to shift.gearboxsoftware.com and login with your information just like before! If you’re having any issues with logging in, reach out to our support team.

Q: What happens with my personal data under SHiFT?

A: Any data we collect will remain in your SHiFT account. If you’d like to request your data, or delete your account, you can log into shift.gearboxsoftware.com, select ‘Other’ and then select either “Download my SHiFT Account Data” or “Delete My Account”.

You can also create a ticket with our support team if you have any other questions!

Q: What if I don’t have a 2K Account or my SHiFT account isn’t linked to 2K?

A: A 2K Account isn't needed to access your SHiFT account or Gearbox games. Making one and linking your SHiFT Account to your 2K Account can grant you some extra codes though! Check out our guide on 2K Accounts to create or link your accounts for these sweet bonuses!

Q: What kind of data does 2K collect from my SHiFT account?

A: Our Privacy Policy covers what data we collect, and how we use and share that data. If you have any other questions, our support team can help you out.

Q: What if I want to unsubscribe from newsletters and marketing emails on my SHiFT account?

A: Unsubscribing is easy! Log into your SHiFT account at shift.gearboxsoftware.com. From there, select “Profile”, “User Preferences” and then check/uncheck any option there. If you’re still getting emails, let our support team know.

Terms of Service Questions

Q: What is changing?

A: As Gearbox is now part of 2K, one of the companies owned by Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., we are migrating from the existing Gearbox Terms of Service and End User License Agreement to Take-Two’s single Terms of Service that will govern your use of Gearbox’s products and services going forward.

Alongside this migration, we are changing some aspects to our Terms of Service. The updates clarify the user content and conduct that is acceptable in our products and services and update the binding arbitration agreement that applies to all players resident outside of the UK, EEA, Switzerland, and Australia.

We encourage you to read our new Terms of Service in their entirety at www.take2games.com/legal once published on February 28, 2025.

Q: When will the new Terms of Service take effect?

A: Our new Terms of Service will take effect on March 28, 2025. Your acceptance of our new Terms of Service will be required in order to fully participate in our products and services from March 28, 2025.

Q: Where can I find the Terms of Service?

A: You can view our Terms of Service anytime by following this link. Should you need them, our Privacy Policy and Code of Conduct are also available for viewing at any time.

Q: How does this new update affect my SHiFT account? What about my rewards and progress in-game and friends list?

A: Following this update, everything you’ve done in-game or on your SHiFT account will stay exactly as-is. Your progress, rewards, friends, codes, and keys will all still be accessible in your account or in-game.  However, please note that you must accept the updated Terms of Service if you wish to continue using our games and services.

Q: Do I have to accept the updated Terms of Service?

A: You must accept the updated Terms of Service if you wish to continue using our products and services.  If you do not wish to accept the updated Terms of Service, you may no longer be able to access some or all of our products and services.

Q: Will I have to accept this for each individual Gearbox game? (Risk of Rain, Homeworld 3, etc.)

A: Yes, any game you haven't logged into since the update on March 28, 2025, you’ll be asked to review and accept our Terms of Service in order to play.

Privacy Policy

Q: Why is Gearbox moving to 2K / Take-Two’s Privacy Policy?

A: We’re now part of the 2K and Take-Two group of companies! 2K and Take-Two recently acquired Gearbox as part of a corporate acquisition. This means we are now part of the Take-Two group of companies. During business transitions, it’s common to streamline policies across the enterprise, which also includes Gearbox migrating to the 2K / Take-Two Privacy Policy.

Q: Does this mean Gearbox will handle my personal data differently?

A: No. The way we handle personal data remains the same. If we change the way we process data in a meaningful way, we will let you know. The data that you provide or is collected when you play Gearbox games, use Gearbox services, or through your SHiFT Account will be part of the data managed by 2K.

Q: Will you share my data with Take-Two or Take-Two group of companies?

A: Under Gearbox’s privacy policy, we may disclose or transfer information (including personal information) as part of a business transition, like a merger, acquisition by another company, or sale of all or part of our assets. Gearbox may share personal information within the Take-Two group companies and labels listed here to enable Gearbox to carry out the purposes set out in the 2K / Take-Two Privacy Policy. Keep in mind that our practices and data we collect may differ depending on how you use and interact with our services.

Q: Where can I find the new Privacy Policy?

A: The 2K / Take-Two Privacy Policy can be found at this URL: https://www.take2games.com/privacy/.

Q: Can I opt out of the Take-Two Privacy Policy?

A: The move to the 2K / Take-Two Privacy Policy does not change your interactions with Gearbox.  Right now, you are not able to opt-out of the change to the 2K / Take-Two Privacy Policy. If you would like to have your personal data deleted, you can log into shift.gearboxsoftware.com, select ‘Other’ and then select “Delete My Account”. Please remember that if you continue to use the services after making a deletion request, Gearbox will collect and use that information based on the then-current privacy policy.
