2K follows both country/region and game-specific requirements around personal information collection and game access for younger gamers. If your age doesn't meet the minimum requirements for your country/region to have an account with us, we unfortunately cannot allow you access to certain game modes or features such as online multiplayer, voice chat and SHiFT friends in some Gearbox titles. You can still access single player and local multiplayer modes in those games.
I received an email about my age, what does this mean?
Due to updated region-specific requirements, we have identified accounts that are no longer eligible for a full SHiFT Account in their registered location. 14 days from notification, the existing SHiFT Account will have certain restrictions in place and some features will no longer be accessible.
What can I lose access to in the impacted games?
- Online multiplayer
- Voice chat
- SHiFT friends
- SHiFT rewards
- Signing up for 2K Newsletters
What do I keep access to?
- Single player modes
- Local multiplayer modes
What happens when I am old enough?
If you're playing Borderlands 4, there's good news! The game itself will check your date of birth each time it starts up. If you've recently passed an age threshold in your country/region, your options may still default to being disabled, but you'll be able to manually set those features live. For other Gearbox games, we don't currently have the ability to release your SHiFT from the restrictions.
How do you know my date of birth?
When you set up your SHiFT Account, it will ask for this information. If your account was set up without it or without your country/region, you can log in to the SHiFT Account site where it will prompt you to enter these details. In Borderlands 4 it matters what platform you are playing from to determine how we implement your age, and you can read more about that here.
What happens to my existing SHiFT rewards?
Any rewards previously claimed before your account was adjusted will be retained, however you will not be able to access your rewards history or redeem new rewards until you pass the age threshold for your country/region.
What if I gave you the wrong date of birth when I set up my SHiFT account?
It's important to provide accurate information when you set up your SHiFT account, including your email address and date of birth. If that date of birth isn't correct, you'll need to reach out to our Support team and use the email address linked to your SHiFT account. From there, our team will discuss your options with you.
