It’s important to keep your 2K and SHiFT accounts safe from unauthorized access. Below we have some tips and best practices to help keep your account secure.

Email

The email address you choose for your account should be secure. It should also be one you will continue to have access to. Avoid using any school or workplace emails that you could lose access to in the future, or any shared email accounts.

Passwords

Always use a unique password for your 2K or SHiFT account. We recommend passwords with:

  • A minimum of 8 characters including:
    • 1 uppercase character
    • 1 lowercase character
    • 1 number or symbol

Never store your passwords where someone else can access them, and never share them. A 2K employee will never ask you for your password, so do not share them with anyone claiming to represent 2K. Update your passwords regularly and use different passwords for your accounts online.

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is available for 2K accounts, we strongly recommend adding this to your account to help keep it safe and secure. This can be enabled by:

  1. Logging into your 2K account through the 2K account portal
  2. Head to “Account details”
  3. In the “Two-Factor Authentication” section, select the “Enable” button.

Enabling it will send a verification code via email that you’ll have to enter when attempting to log in to 2K websites and games.

Account Sharing and Third-Party Access

Do not share your account details with others, regardless if you know the person. Account sharing, purchasing, or allowing third-party access is against our Code of Conduct. Should anything happen to your account, we are unlikely to be able to help you recover it.

Monitor Your Account

Be sure to monitor your account for suspicious or unusual activity such as:

  • Changes to your account you didn’t personally authorize
  • A login from a device you’re not familiar with
  • A platform connection you’re not familiar with

If you do see these changes to your account, change your password immediately.

General Security Best Practices

  • Keep your information in a safe place
  • Update your browsers, OS and apps regularly
  • Keep your antivirus or anti-malware software up to date
  • Update your passwords regularly
  • Exercise caution when using public devices or Wi-Fi
  • Never save your information on public devices
  • Don’t leave your devices, computer or consoles unattended and open for others to see

Phishing Scams

Be aware of emails that are attempting to impersonate official 2K emails. Check the email domain and the links before opening any emails, downloading any attachments and/or providing any information, especially ones asking for your password and/or login information. A 2K employee will never ask for your password.
