These troubleshooting steps cover the basics to help resolve common crashes, freezes, or errors with 2K titles and its DLCs on PC. Be sure to give them all a try to clear up your issue.
System Requirements
Be sure to double check the minimum system requirements for any game you’re attempting to launch! Systems that are just about or below minimum requirements may cause the game to not launch or encounter performance issues during play.
Clearing the cache
A great first step in troubleshooting any game is to conduct a cache clear, which helps to clean up and flush out any potentially corrupt or unnecessary temporary files. For the step-by-step on how to cache clear on your launcher program, check out our article here.
Re-installing the game
A complete re-installation of a game may be necessary when a cache clear does not help to resolve the issue. This will help to refresh any potentially corrupted files and provide necessary updates to games that may be behind on the latest patch.
You can uninstall a game from its specific launcher, such as Steam or Epic, or via the Windows Settings.
To do so through the Window’s Settings:
Head to Settings by pressing the Windows key + I on your keyboard.
Select Apps.
Click on the game title and select “Uninstall”.
Update Graphic Drivers
Outdated drivers can cause issues with gameplay and overall stability. They can also cause issues with compatibility on your device, or cause a game to not launch at all. It’s important to keep all drivers up to date with the latest downloads.
You can check for driver updates from:
Disabling background/non-essential programs
Outside programs may interrupt or prevent the launch of games. This can include, but is not limited to:
VPNs
-
Anti-virus Software
An exception can be created for a game in your anti-virus configuration if it's preventing the game from launching or connecting online.
-
Security applications (e.g., firewalls)
An exception can be created for a game in your firewall configuration if it’s preventing the game from launching or connecting online.
Overlays (e.g., from Steam or Discord)
Updating Windows
Ensure Windows is up to date with the latest downloads. Windows does update automatically by default, but if you’ve turned this setting off or find yourself behind on updates, you can update manually. To do so:
Head to Settings by pressing the Windows key + I on your keyboard.
Then select Update & Security
Click on Windows Update and click "Check for updates"
If updates are available, select Download & install.
You may be prompted to restart your computer to process these updates.
